How to arrive in the Monte Sant'Angelo Campus

The Monte S. Angelo Campus is open from 8am to 8pm on working days, from 8am to 2pm. on Saturdays. It lies between Fuorigrotta and Soccavo, in the western part of Napoli. It is close to a motorway link (the Fuorigrotta exit of the Tangenziale di Napoli motorway) and near to a railway station (Napoli Campi Flegrei). Therefore it is rather easy to arrive in Monte S. Angelo by car or by train. Who is travelling by plane is suggested to take a taxi from the Napoli Capodichino airport: under normal traffic conditions the fare should not be more than 15 euros (as of 2004).

Some links to web resources on public transport in Napoli and Campania (and a map of the town) are listed under "Viaggi" in our useful links page. Several of the index pages are in Italian, but point to pages with more specific content that are also translated into English. Also see the maps of university sites.

Driving to Monte S. Angelo

Directions:

The route to Monte S. Angelo is explained below and is drawn in yellow in the map below (starting from the Tangenziale exit, which is printed in green). In the map there are also numbered reference points in blue. To ease identification, below the map there are photos taken from these points in the directions pointed to by the arrows.

Route:

Once arrived in Napoli, take the Tangenziale motorway. (The Tangenziale is directly connected to all major roads and motorways to Napoli.) Come off at the Fuorigrotta exit. Just after the toll-house drive to the right (following the signs to Pianura and Soccavo; see Photo 1): after a short uphill bend (less than 100 meters) you are in via Cintia (Photo 2). Drive further about 450 meters to the streetlight. The Monte S. Angelo Campus is quite visible on your left (see Photo 3).

Travelling by train

Important note:

Napoli has three major railway stations: "Centrale" (Piazza Garibaldi), "Campi Flegrei" and "Mergellina". They are connected by a railway that also works as an underground line (FS). In "Centrale" the trains on this line stop at platforms located downstairs. This "underground station" is known as the "Piazza Garibaldi" station. Note that some (ordinary) trains stop there rather than in the "Centrale" station upstairs.

Directions:

From "Piazza Garibaldi" or "Mergellina" we suggest to take the FS underground to reach the "Campi Flegrei" station. Then you can get the bus "C15" from the square facing the station. In about two kilometers (after a number of other stops) the bus stops opposite to the Monte S. Angelo Campus entrance. The bus reaches the stop at the Campus entrance (that can be seen in Photo 3) only after a long route.

Please remember that the bus driver could also decide to ignore a bus stop if nobody is waiting for the bus at the stop and nobody has asked to stop from inside the bus. Thus it is safer to press any of the red buttons near the doors shortly before the bus gets to your destination stop (unless somebody else has already done it); this will tell the driver that you wish to get off the bus at the next stop.
