The main computing activity of CMS is currently related to the simulation, with Monte Carlo based programs, of the experimental apparatus response. CMS tested its production software for simulation on the European DataGRID Project (EDG) environment. A large number of jobs (~10000) were submitted from four different location in Europe to many distributed sites, thus producing data for physics studies of CMS. The main goals of this activity were to verify the portability of CMS production environment into a grid environment and the robustness of the European DataGrid middleware under the heavy load of a large scale MC simulation. Another CMS activity on the EDG testbed was focused on performing systematic submission of many jobs with different computational and I/O requirements, over a period of about 4 months, in order to evaluate the behaviour of the Grid as a function of the computational load of the jobs.
