Short Biography of Francesco Belardo

Francesco Belardo is an Associate Professor at Department of Mathematics and Applications "R. Caccioppoli" of University of Naples Federico II.

Francesco Belardo was born in Furnari, a town in the Messina Province of Sicily, on 26 December 1978. He left his hometown in 1998 to study Mathematics at University of Messina, where he got his 4-years degree (Laurea) in Mathematics with maximum grades (110 cum Laude) on 25 July 2001.

In 2003 he started the Ph.D. program in Mathematics at University of Messina, under the guidance of Enzo M. Li Marzi (1944-2021) and Slobodan K. Simić (1949-2019). He defended his Ph.D. thesis, titled "A relevant aspect in Spectral Graph Theory: Graph perturbations and Index variations", on 19 February 2007.

After the Ph.D. studies, he completed the teacher-qualification program (School Docent of Mathematics and Physics), and he became long-term teacher in several secondary schools (until 2014). In the meanwhile he has continued his academic career by getting a Post-doc in Mathematics at the University of Messina (2008-2010), and two 1-year term Research Fellowships at the same university for the years 2011 and 2013.

While serving the University of Messina as a short-term Lecturer, he got a visiting professorship position at University of Primorska in Slovenia. From June 2014 to September 2015 he was enrolled as an Associate Professor at FAMNIT. In July 2015, he won a permanent position as Associate Professor of Geometry and Algebra at University of Naples Federico II; such position has started in October 2015.
In 2017 he got the habilitation for Full Professorship in Mathematics.

Francesco Belardo has published more than 70 papers with several coauthors. Most frequent coauthors are E.M. Li Marzi, S.K. Simić and JianFeng Wang. In Naples, he is mostly cooperating with Maurizio Brunetti and Adriana Ciampella.

Since 2008 he is married with Monica Milasi (Associate Professor at Economics Department of the University of Messina), who gave birth to two children: Giuseppe (born 2010), and Sara (born 2012).

He loves cats: he has a cat named Gauss, a beautiful British-Scottish shorthair. He also loves videogames (especially old-style JRPG) and he reads a few Japanese mangas.
